Resources

The Resource Development Work Package (WP3) translates the validated research findings (WP2) into practical, ready-to-use tools for youth workers and disadvantaged youth. These resources are co-created with experts and community members to ensure they are culturally relevant, effective, and accessible across Europe.

These three core outputs will be available for download and use upon finalization and external validation.

Mobile Mental Health App

The App is a digital, self-help resource focused on building a sense of belonging and dealing with everyday stress.

Target Group and Scope

The App is primarily designed for young Roma, migrants, and refugees—groups identified by the research as needing culturally sensitive, stigma-free mental health support. However, its functionalities are created in a way that makes it universally useful, meaning all young people around the globe can use it to practice self-care, build emotional resilience, and access mental health literacy.

Design Principles

The mobile application is designed to be a gentle and empowering companion for self-discovery and well-being. Built on the principle that true growth stems from self-awareness and human connection, our app serves as a compassionate entry point into mental hygiene, rather than a space for dependency. The entire design is consistently geared towards empowering the user’s self-discovery and agency, rather than creating a passive digital experience.

I
Non-Dependency

We designed the app to be a supportive starting point, not a permanent destination. The core goal is to foster initial self-awareness and gently transition the user toward vital human connection and professional help. Our Care Corner fulfills this by serving as a direct, localized gateway, providing contact information for partner organizations. Furthermore, the self-care and education content is delivered as small “glimpses” to introduce tools and intrigue the user, cultivating self-sufficiency rather than reliance on the digital platform.

II
Personal Agency and Empowering Self-Expression

True self-discovery requires freedom from external labels. Our design empowers the user to define their own inner world. The Mood Check provides an abstract canvas, allowing expression through personal visuals—a “purple cat” rather than a prescribed emotion. This ensures that only the user knows the true, private meaning of their log. By reviewing these unique visual patterns in My Space, the user is the sole interpreter of their journey, driving their own analysis and action.

III
Somatic Connection and Grounding

We integrate the body as a core element of emotional well-being. Our approach encourages users to go beyond abstract thoughts and locate feelings in their body, establishing the crucial mind-body connection. This principle is realized through the Body Awareness step and through the accessible somatic exercises introduced by the cute monster, making essential coping and grounding mechanisms simple and approachable.

IV
Empowerment Through Knowledge and Content

Resilience is built on understanding one’s context and rights. The app is committed to providing actionable knowledge that supports the user in fighting back against discrimination and injustice. The Care Corner is structured to deliver essential educational content on topics like antigypsyism and youth rights, while also providing practical, localized legal and contact points, ensuring users have the necessary tools to seek external support.

V
Compassionate Belonging

The app fosters a vital sense of community while respecting privacy and avoiding the pitfalls of open social media. The Balloons Section provides messages of encouragement collected from young people for young people. This feature creates a profound sense of shared experience, letting users feel seen and less alone—a source of anonymous, uplifting solidarity that does not require any direct interaction.

Handbook and Toolkit

The Project Manual and Youth Worker Toolkit is a comprehensive, integrated resource designed to enhance the professional capacity of youth workers, educators, and social service providers across Europe. This single deliverable is composed of two core parts:

This resource acknowledges that youth workers are on the front lines, often serving as the crucial link between young people and professional help. By focusing on the youth worker’s professional development, self-care, and knowledge, the Toolkit ensures the safe, ethical, and effective implementation of the project’s mission.

Scope and the Goal

The Manual serves as the project’s theoretical backbone, containing the knowledge, ethical guidelines, and context, while the Toolkit contains the practical, ready-to-use activities and session outlines. This integrated resource has a threefold scope:

I
Capacity Building and Ethics

The Manual establishes the essential ethical and professional boundary guidelines for working in trauma-sensitive contexts. It is a comprehensive guide to understanding resilience not as a trait, but as a dynamic process that youth workers can actively foster.

II
Well-being Literacy and Rights-Based Practice

The Manual provides youth workers with the detailed context and information necessary to enhance well-being literacy. It functions as a foundational guide for integrating mental health concepts, psychological safety, and a rights-based perspective into everyday youth work practice, ensuring that emotional resilience is supported ethically and effectively.

III
The Toolkit section

Which is also integrated into the Manual, includes structured Session Outlines and practical activities that youth workers can immediately integrate into workshops and training. These tools are designed to encourage safe interaction, promote compassionate belonging, and facilitate non-verbal expression, mirroring the core philosophical practices found within the app.
